BEST PRACTICES FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL
Back-to-school, teacher best practices, student reflections, student assessments, teacher pd
Are you planning on following these best practices in the upcoming year? #best practices #teacherpd

  1. Make sure every student feels welcomed by greeting them at the door.
  2. Make sure you smile and make eye contact.
  3. Learn your students names early by saying them often.
  4. Use collaborative strategies in your class like think, pair, share and jigsaw groupings.
  5. Remember that relationships have more return than anything else.  Build them.
  6. Make sure you ditch your desk time and interact with the students throughout the lesson.
  7. Make sure you know your standards and plan around meeting those standards.
  8. Give real world examples before when you explain new concepts.  This will help anchor student background knowledge.
  9. Get feedback from your students about how things are going.  Make sure you get a variety of student voices to ensure ALL students are represented.
  10. Rest!  Go home and do something fun with your friends or family at the end of each day.  Teaching is tiring and you need to recharge. You cannot give anything from an empty cup!

lesson planning, back to school, remediation, assessment, new teacher resources, teacher professional development

I know that many teachers struggle with having limited time, being overwhelmed by planning lessons aligned to high level standards, breaking down data, providing remediation, and staying organized throughout it all.  I completely understand, I have felt the same way that you do and have spent years putting together simple step-by-step processes for planning.  Over the years I have created so many step-by-step processes that I have used when working with teachers to plan lessons that are engaging, aligned to standards, meet the needs of diverse learners, and ensure assessments are used to provide data. I was overwhelmed with the expectations to differentiate, keep all students engaged, ensure standards were taught and assessed, and know all the different teacher jargon.  It was a bit consuming of my time. As I worked on these skills, I realized I had a knack for making complicated processes simple.  I begin to not only have success with my own planning, but I found myself helping other teachers to plan as well.

I know that these steps, tips, and reference pages will help make your job a bit less overwhelming.

These processes led to great gains in student achievement and I ended up becoming a curriculum specialist that worked with teachers across the state.

Then I became a school administrator where our school has shown gains by using many of these processes I have shared with my teachers.

Inside this course, you'll find everything you need to Master Lesson Planning and prepare for a successful classroom.  Every video lesson, guide, and printable resource is meant to simplify the process for you.
