Civics and Government Outline Notes for Unit Review

Civics Outline Notes: just the essentials

When I taught civics, my students got buried in the details of the Constitution, the three branches and the court cases long before test day. These outline notes cut each unit down to the facts that matter most, plus the key people, places and documents to know.

I hand them out on the first day of a unit, and students keep them right up to the test. They work for middle and high school civics and government classes.

What it is

This JUST THE ESSENTIALS packet is a new and engaging way to create a quick reference study guide, conduct test prep, or just give students an opportunity to reference key concepts throughout a unit. The packet includes an overview of the essential content in each unit and a list of key people to know and places to locate. Each unit set includes the most important information to know in an easy to understand and sequential format. There are also four graphic organizers that can be used with each unit to have students sequence events, research cause and effect relationships, organize vocabulary words, and organize information on key people.

How I'd use this

Give students the outline on day one and have them highlight anything they already know in yellow. On review day, they go back through with a second color and mark what still feels shaky. That second color shows you exactly what to reteach, and it takes about five minutes.
